Philippine soldiers’ long wait for compensation

More than 60 years after the end of World War II, thousands of Philippine war veterans are to be compensated receiving a one-off payment up to $15,000 for their services in helping the United States defend its former colony.

But some ageing soldiers are saying it is too little, too late.

Still no peace in sight for southern Philippines

The southern Philippine conflict almost came to an end last year but the collapse of a proposed peace deal between the government and the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front put paid to the resolution.
