Russia’s military plans loom over talks with US

Barack Obama, the US president will be holding a key meeting Wednesday April 1 with Dimitry Medvedev, his Russian counterpart.

Both sides have indicated they are ready to start rebuilding US-Russian relations.

But suspicion remains, and Russia has made no secret of its plans to beef up its own military power, in the wake of Nato’s expansion towards the east.

Russian rocket sends US tourist into space 26 March 09

A Russian rocket carrying a US space tourist is on its way to the International Space Station.

Charles Simonyi is the first tourist to take a second trip into space.

The Soyuz spaceship will take the number of people living on the orbiting space station to six – the highest number to date

Jailed Russian oil tycoon back in court

Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the former chief of oil empire Yukos, has gone back on trial in Moscow.

Once Russia’s richest man, he now faces another 15 years behind bars for embezzlement and money laundering.

Outside court, his supporters were carted away by police as they protested his innocence.

Migrant workers allege abuse in Russia

In Russia, hundreds of thousands of migrant workers are struggling to make a living. Human Rights Watch says many foreign workers face exploitation and abuse, both in and outside of the workplace.
