An Austrian man who’s accused of imprisoning his daughter beneath his family home for more than two decades and fathering seven children with her has gone on trial.
There was tight security around the court in St Polten as Josef Fritzl appeared in the dock. He pleaded guilty to incest, but denied murdering a newborn baby boy.
He also pleaded not guilty to a charge of enslaving his daughter Elisabeth, who’s now 42, for most of her life. A verdict is expected this week, and if he’s found guilty he could face life in jail.
