Families of Jordanian prisoners plea for action

At least 29 Jordanians are serving life sentences in Israeli prisoners and another 29 are missing in Israel.

The families of these detainees and missing persons want their government to use its relations with Israel, with which it is bound by a 1994 peace agreement, to release these prisoners.

Al Jazeera’s Nisreen el-Shamayleh reports from Amman on how that government is stopping short of their demands for action.

Ruptured pipes have caused a massive flood inside one of the world’s biggest hydroelectric power stations in Russia.

The accident at the state-run dam in southern Siberia killed at least 12 people.

Russian officials say that the giant dam will not burst.

Lockerbie case could end in possible release

The Scottish High Court is deliberating whether to grant Abdel Basset al-Megrahi, a Libyan man jailed for the 1998 airline bombing over the Scottish town of Lockerbie, an early release on compassionate grounds or transfer him to a Libyan prison.

The Libyan government has appealed to the Court to consider the two options as al-Megrahi is suffering from advanced prostate cancer.
