El Salavador mourns soldiers killed in Iraq

 

The El Salvadorean president has made a farewell visit to the White House where George Bush, the US president, thanked Elias Saca for “supporting freedom in Iraq.” El Salvador is the only Latin American country to still have troops fighting there.
But with more than 80 per cent of the country opposed to the war, that alliance may well be coming to an end.  Gabriel Elizondo reports from San Salvador.


US cuts interest rates to lowest level

 

The US central bank, the Federal Reserve, has cut interest rates to their lowest level to try to turn around the ailing economy but knock-on effects persist


Released palestinians return to Gaza

 

Following the release of 224 Palestinian prisoners from Israel there were scenes of jubilation in the Palestinian Territories. Sherine Tadros speaks to a man who was detained for six years and talks about how he feels to be back home. He emerged to find a very different Gaza.
